Rise of the Triad 2013 review (Photos)

Rise of the Triad 2013 edition is a first person shooter released for PC on July 31st, 2013. It is a remake of the original 1995 classic. The story remains the same as the original, but the question is does this game live up to its original counterpart, or is it an unworthy game that didn’t deserve to be remade?

Graphics-While the graphics aren’t the best, they still look good. The character models look great, and make killing the enemies all the more enjoyable. The environments are also well done, and each stage looks very impressive. The dismembering of body parts was a little excessive, but is a nice touch to the game.

Sound-Choosing between the new and old soundtrack is a real plus, but the only minor downside is not having the original voices included so that players can switch between the new and old voices.

Gameplay-This game only had one thing on its mind when it came to gameplay, and that is old school first person shooter action. This time, the coins don’t add life points so that for every 100, you get an extra life, but gives regular points. While this wasn’t a terrible idea, it also wasn’t executed very well, because not giving life points towards an extra life brings the challenge down a little. Another gripe is the infinite ammo for the handguns, as they should’ve ran on limited ammo.

Worthiness-This game is plenty worthy of living up to its 1995 counterpart in all levels. The levels are huge, the soundtrack is just as awesome, the enemies are fun to kill, and the weapons are both weird and awesome. The only downside is that this game is just a little too easy, thanks to unlimited lives.

Overall-This game looks fantastic, and this game did deserve to be remade.

Score: 4/5

Hint: If you’re a first time player, choose Taradino Cassat. He is the most balanced of all the characters. Remember, each character has different stats.
